‘Sonic’ and ‘Droney McDroneface’

FPV Racing Quadcopters are one of the focuses of the Multirotor Robot Design Team. These aerial robots, while not autonomous, must be designed to be light, strong, and as fast as possible.

The racing quadcopters pictured above have frames composed of carbon fiber and aluminum standoffs. They are shaped to be ideal for high speed and maneuverability so that they can take on the competition in FPV races. During these races, an FPV camera allows the pilot to see what the multirotor is seeing as it flies around via a headset. The pilot flies the quadcopter around a track and through various obstacles in a race against other pilots in an attempt to get the lowest time.

The Multirotor Robot Design Team will be entering regional FPV races and hopes to host local FPV races in the future! Check back here for new flight videos and photos.
